endeavor (v)

Most commonly “endeavored.”

Fancy three syllable academese meaning “tried.”

e.g.: “In this paper, I have endeavored to demonstrate that, although Batman could never beat Superman in a fight, the unlikelihood of Superman’s existence renders Batman, nonetheless, the superior hero.”
